The good news with the housemaid’s secret is it continues exactly where the last book left off. Millie is continuing her work as a housekeeper though at this point in time she is currently dating and studying to pursue a career in social work.
Millie has spent sometime helping women who have found themselves in precarious situations, helping them out of bad situations and into better ones. Millie now thinks that those days are all behind her and she is looking to the future, she seems bright and optimistic until she finds herself in a situation that she does not entirely feel comfortable with. She starts working for a man called Douglas Garrick, a seemingly wealthy man with a wife who is extremely unwell and never comes out of her room.Eventually Millie has her own suspicions and she begins to unravel things. She begins to learn that sometimes not everything is what it seems, some people are not meant to be trusted and others need to be kept at an arms length.
The Housemaid’s Secret is Freida McFadden’s follow-up to bestselling mystery-thriller, The Housemaid which came out in January 2022. I will say that this book kept me on my toes just when I thought it was heading in one direction I was pulled in another creating myself a world where for the moments I was reading I truly had no idea what was coming next. What I enjoyed the most was the way that Millie had changed from the first book but the familiarity in the fact that she was always able to use her powers of deduction to figure out what she wanted to do next.
The next book in the series is The Housemaid Is Watching, which I am currently reading I will let you know how I get on.
