Record day has become such a staple in lives of record collectors and spinners across the world. I am no different on the April this year I headed down to my local record store Rough Trade West and I was able to pick up a record that has been missing from my collection for a while – Loyle Carner, “Hopefully !” Carner can be such a chameleon in an industry that often begs for the same and the status quo. I am very excited to have this record as part of collection of music that really speaks to who I am and what I stand for as an individual and lifelong appreciator of music from artists all over the globe.
The highlight of my day was being able to catch a full set list from Birmingham based band Overpass. I was partially impressed by their ability to command a large crowd’s attention and draw in those who perhaps are not so familiar with their music. It started of soft and as their confidence increased so did the excitement of the crowd it was energetic without taking away from Max Newy’s soulful vocal delivering such a powerful rendition of their most popular tracks. Giving us a taste of what is to come on their debut album tour later this year.
They have established themselves as an band to watch as you can hear the influences that they have from their hometown of Birmingham where legends are often made and their high-energy live shows have left them really honing in their craft by supporting established bands that have become a staple for indie, alternative and guitar pop fans such as Inhaler and Two Door Cinema Club.
Notable and key releases include their EP From the Night laying the foundation and the groundwork for their debut Album ‘Elsewhere Always’. This year they are set for a UK tout over October and November playing iconic venues such as the O2 Ritz and the hometown glory that will be a show at the O2 Academy Birmingham.
I encourage you to listen to their music and feel free to follow the band across various social media platforms to get the latest update on ticket sales and other events they may have come up this year. Overpass can official be described as an artist to watch and personally I cannot wait to see where their promising career will take them.
